I picked up a camera in 2016 after breaking my arm skateboarding. I wanted to continue to “skate” with my friends while I recovered, so I began photographing them. I shot digital for awhile and honestly became a little bored. I picked up my first film camera later that year and became more interested in the process of film than digital.
2016 was a weird time to get into photography. Instagram was just starting to blow up in the photography world and I found myself lost in the façade. When to post, hashtags to use, validation based on the amount of engagement. All crap that wasn’t a part of the photography process not even a decade ago. I got burnt out and shortly after, the amount of photographs I made diminished.
Now days I find myself missing the process of making photographs. But I have very little interest in the Instagram world. My account became more of a personal account that I sometimes share images on. The purpose of this little site is to have a space to publish photographs I make for the few friends and family that care to see my work. But also it’s to keep me making photographs. The process has always provided me with a healthy place to express.
